Winter Haiku

See the river flow
In a long unbroken line
On the field of snow.
– Nozawa Boncho

I had been thinking about making a zine about winter, but in the end I made a simple folded book instead. Partly because I had enjoyed making Mountain so much in the summer, and partly because I had a lot of other things going on at the time and needed a simpler project. I also thought if I could make a book that was easily printable from a single sheet of paper I could give it away to my newsletter subscribers as a wee gift to celebrate the winter solstice.

I’ve been enjoying the simplicity of haiku recently, Nozawa Boncho in particular, and the spaciousness, stillness and void of haiku inspired the book’s form.

Spacious, simple, unhurried, peaceful. How I like things.
